Earlier this month, members of our Business Development team traveled West to see what the Land of Milk and Honey had to offer.  The main reason for our pilgrimage was Star Chefs quarterly Rising Stars Gala, held this summer on June 13th.

Prior to the events, we dined at Kismet. There, the dynamic duo Sara Kramer and Sarah Hymanson are redefining Middle Eastern flavors. Served family-style, this menu is meant to be shared amongst friends.   Their broccoli toast was then featured at the Rising Stars Gala, and with good reason; it was so nice, we ate it twice! After receiving their Rising Stars award, Sara and Sarah traveled to Aspen Food and Wine Festival to accept their 2017 Best New Chef’s Honor! We can’t wait to see what they will use their new Vitamix blender for – given to all Rising Star recipients!

Los Angeles has no shortage of talent within the hospitality community.  The Rising Stars there put out dishes on the forefront of cooking technology and innovation.  Both Vartan Abgaryan of 71Above and Alison Trent of Ysabel used Poly Science’s ‘Control Freak’.  This induction cooking system is the first of its kind to accurately measure, set, and hold a range of 400 cooking temperatures. This level of precision has astonishing results.  Alison Trent’s ricotta-truffle capeletti was poached to perfection. Don’t you think it’s time that you became a FREAK too and got your very own unit?

L.A. is also the epicenter of trends – tableware included.  Gareth Evans of Gwen served his wagyu tartare on Steelite’s brand new Anfora Crete collection in the Roca Color.  These round plates offer large, flat plating surfaces surrounded by a clever lip that is convenient for stacking.  Who doesn’t love a space-saving solution?

L.A. wouldn’t be L.A. without its green initiatives. For disposable dining solutions, take a note from Chefs Johnny Zone and Jeffrey Weiss, who use PacknWood eco-disposables. Made of natural, organic and recyclable materials, PacknWood is both sustainable and stylish.

This Rising Stars event concluded at Bar Clacson, downtown. Special thanks to Eric Alperin and his team at 213 Hospitality for keeping us well-hydrated.  Next time your travels bring you to this city, check out these Rising Stars’ restaurants. You will not be disappointed.
